FAQ's

Mixing is when you take all elements of a song ala the music (Kick, Snare, HiHat, Bass, Keyboards, Guitar) and the vocals (Lead Vocal, Background Vocals, Group Yells/Shouts) and put them together as one cohesive song that feels good and enjoyable to the listener. So much so, you/they want to listen to it over and over again.

That’s a great question. It all depends on how great the song was recorded to be completely honest. If the song was recorded great, all parts are working together, no obvious distortion and also depending on how many tracks there are, it could take 2 to 4 hours. What takes more time is often the issues with the song/s that are unseen. From phase issues to distortion issues and trying to mask the distortion. Then also parts missing from the song to the song not being done or the song having to many parts and forcing the song to work to even not having the tracks named and ready to be mixed. So that’s when it can sometimes take a little longer than expected. Those types of sessions take 4 to 8 hours.

We’ll since I now mix in the box (Meaning I mix all parts of the song in the computer through the latest Pro Tools software), I try to use the best plugins money can buy from all the top plugin developers ala Waves, Plugin Alliance, Slate Digital, Apogee, Universal Audio, Pulsar and many more. I also use all the experience I’ve learned from recording, engineering, writing, producing and mixing over the past 28+ years which is much more important to get the song sounding and feeling like a record.

If you play your song right after a song you really love the sound of, it’s in the same genre as your song but your song doesn’t sound as good or as clear or as loud or as wide etc. You feel your song sounds like a demo. Or if you love the song and how it sounds the way it is, maybe you don’t need it mixed, maybe you need it “Mastered” meaning, you just need it louder, more in your face. Either way, I can help you out.

I get this all the time. Just depends. Depends on what you need, more drums, more piano/bass parts, more vocals or vocal ideas. These are more writing steps and we would need to talk about production cost and adding me as a writer on the song. That’s only if we both come to an agreement that these are the things needed for the song.

I get this as well a lot. To be honest, I’d rather do a whole new different track in the same key as the one you did but again, that would be production and writing credit and is something that we would need to talk about. That is not including the mix fees.

If you feel what I’ve done is way off from what you’re trying to accomplish then we can work together to get it to where you want it to be. No matter how long it takes. I want you to be satisfied and love the song much more than before.

I can mix most genres but I’m strong at Pop, R&B, Hip Hop, Soul and Dance music.

Great question, of course it is. First thanks for being a valued customer but also anybody that you recommend to me, if it turns out to be a paid session, you will receive 10% off your next mix/mixes if it turns out to be more songs. So if I do 3 songs for your friend, then I will give you 10% off of your next 3 songs.

Unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to. I value my relationship with these companies and I know how hard it is to survive in this business. All I could do is recommend some plugins I use to lead you in the right direction in picking up great tools/plugins. Also I own a plugin store for just this reason, so I would be able to get you a great price!

Great question, so I will send you a .wav and .mp3 of the full mixed song. If you need more versions ala TV Track, Acapella or Instrumental, I will have no problem sending you those versions. I will send you up to 3 different versions after the original final mix. After that there will be a $10 fee for every different mix needed.

I do make and keep backups as long as I can. I’m not responsible for such backups and if you need stems of the mixed songs, I can supply those as well right after the mix.

Stems are typically tracks that have been grouped together to Aux’s or Busses and recorded down to make the song more manageable to either backup or send to other producers, writers, arrangers, directors etc to rearrange for such projects. Stems use to be for remixing purposes to do other versions to the same song. Now they are used as documentation of such songs to deliver to the record company. Stems do NOT have plugins on them and are recorded down from those plugins used on the mix so you can rebalance or re-edit a mix but not to re-do the mix itself.

Absolutely! I tend to use Big Bass Brian Gardner that masters Dr. Dre’s songs and I’d be glad to send the mixes to him. That would be a separate transaction. After I’ve mixed the songs, I would then send the mixed versions to Brian and cc you in on the email and you would take it from there. He would let you know his cost and time frame. I would do the same for anyone else that you have in mind as well.

Unfortunately we used to do that back in the day but no longer do so. I would say wait until you have the funds for the mixes to pay in full before requesting the work to be done. We will work with you as much as possible but unfortunately we can NOT promise to mix songs before getting paid.

We do all we can to make sure your song sounds the best it can. If I know that adding another kick underneath your kick will add to the song without taking away from it or making it sound different than I will do a mix with and without my added drums just in case. Most times it’s not needed but sometimes it is and has never been denied.

Yes, please request this as it’s a separate job and is NOT part of the mixing process.

About 1 to 2 days. Just depends on the song. As far as money for remixing, that depends on how much work is needed.

Of course. You can either send me the session from where you left off with plugins on the track and I’ll finish it off or, record down all the plugins of where you left off and I’ll take it from there. Either way, I’ll make it work and we’ll work together to get it to where it’s supposed to be. Most likely I have the plugins you have as well. LOL

Great question and yes, of course I do. I can do a ruff mix for you to let you see how it would sound with a little better mix than where you have it now. That’s great because it’s having a different perspective as you go along. Of course there is a separate fee for that but not near as much as a full mix.

As far as a test mix, we do not. As far as a test master, yes we do.

Yes of course we do.

Full Mixes & MixTape – The 10 Easy Steps!!!

  1. Please make sure all parts are named easily ala Main Kick, Main Snare, Lead Vocal, Ad-lib Vocal 1, Piano, Rhodes etc.
  2. Please make sure each part is recorded separately and if you like a certain effect, please do a track with the effect on the sound and a track without the effect so, I can see if I have a better option or if your original sound works better for the mix.
  3. Listen to each part and make sure there is no distortion unless that is something you’re going for with that part. There is no way to fix distortion. At least not right now.
  4. If you are sending me the Pro Tools session, please make sure that you do a “Save Copy In” and save it to your desktop. So you can easily know where it is to send it to me.
  5. If you are sending each part via .wav, please make sure you bounce each part from the beginning til the end of the song. Also please make sure you are naming or have named each part/sound.
  6. Please make sure you add a ruff draft/demo mix of the song you have been listening to, so I can know what you like the most about the song and also that tells me where to take the song from there.
  7. If someone else mixed it before me and you didn’t like the mix, send me that mix also. so I know what NOT to do. LOL
  8. Send notes on what you hear, maybe what you want the song to sound/feel like ala “That new xxxx artist song or that song by xxxx’. Please note: your song is not that song so, we wouldn’t be able to get it to sound exactly like that song but at least in that vibe/area.
  9. Make sure to zip everything and you can send it via Wetransfer or Dropbox. Either one seems to be the most popular.
  10. Please make sure to send payment before sending session. I will NOT start the mix before full payment has been made.
